Artist Biography

Mustafa Ali is a Syrian Sculptor, born in Latakia, 1956, and is one of the most famous sculptors in the Arab world. In his work, Ali is known by the fusion he makes of the visual and cultural heritage of Syria and modern art trends. Moreover, Ali expresses his inspiration by local civilisations in a contemporary art style by shedding light on the relationship between human and animal bodies.

The Syrian sculptor, Mustafa Ali graduated from the Plastic Arts Center, Syrian Ministry of Culture in 1974, and later on, from its Applied Arts Center in 1977. Mustafa also graduated with an excellence degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts at University of Damascus, then in 1996, in Carrara – Italy from the same faculty.

Positions and memberships
Syrian sculptor Mustafa Ali founded and owned the “Gallery Mustafa Ali”, to support the Syrian art movement on both the local and the international levels, especially young artists. He is also the chairman of Al Makan, which stand for “The Place” in arabic, Art Association civil society organization working in art and culture. Furthermore, Mustafa Ali is a member of the Higher Committee for Acquisitions at the Syrian Ministry of Culture, the Syndicate of Fine Arts in Syria, and the Arab Plastic Artists Union.

The Syrian sculptor, Mustaga Ali, won the first prize for competition held by the Arab World Institute in Paris on the occasion of its 25th birthday, which included implementing an artwork on its roof in 2008
